Baby and Toddler Natural/Curly Hair Care

I decided to make a page about how to care for toddler hair. There isn't much info on using the curly girl method on toddler hair, so I thought I'd share my advice on this topic. Here is what I usually do for my daughter's 3B/3C hair:
On wash days (1-2x a week):

1. I wash her hair with a moisturizing baby shampoo such as Disney Natural Renewals Shampoo that I found at Walmart. Let me tell you that shampoo is AWESOME. It's natural, has great ingredients, and seriously does not strip her hair! I am not sure how available it is to everyone, so if you can't find this one there are plenty of others by other brands of natural shampoo like California Baby, Burts Bees...ect.

2. I rinse that out and leave a natural kids conditioner like Jason's Naturals Kid's
Only! Daily Detangling Conditioner for 2-3 minutes while I wash her body.

3. I rinse that out, and then for her leave in I comb through a dime sized amount of a
cheapier conditioner such as Suave Naturals in the Strawberry or Cherry Blossom
scents. I use a cheapie conditioner because it is lighter, which is great for her fine hair!

To refresh her curls in the morning:
  1. I spray her hair with water to refresh the curls
  2. I then finger comb a in dime-sized amount of the cheapie Suave Conditioner through her hair.
  3. I then style and we are ready to go!

My Daughter's Hair After it's Styled

Tips:
  • Only use natural or very light products, as hair is very fine and delicate at this age
  • Water-wash their hair in-between washing and co-washing
  • Put them to sleep on a satin crib sheet...trust me, it helps a LOT
  • Put a satin scarf over the back of their car seat (without it the back will frizz)
  • Do not use cones, petrolatum/mineral oil, or sulfates on their delicate hair!
  • For babies whose hair need extra moisture, I have heard that many seal their babies' hair with a light oil like EVOO after their leave in.
